Barrier SSSMAR has won a contract to provide passive fire protection to the prestigious DAMAC Towers skyscraper development, following a multi-million dirham investment in state-of-the-art equipment.
Barrier SSSMAR was originally engaged by Clad Tech of UAE and Saudi Arabia to apply sprayed cementitious passive fire protection to the structures, including to the highest levels of the towers.
The DAMAC Towers, by Paramount Hotels & Resorts, are a cluster of four 68-storey skyscrapers in Dubai’s Business Bay district.
Barrier SSSMAR had initially been contracted to work on the first tower when the main contractor, TAV of Turkey, insisted on the selection of the company to provide the service on tower number four.
The use of high-tech passive fire protection meets the priorities of the Dubai authorities, as they strive to ensure fire safety in the construction of the emirate’s prestigious and ever increasing collection of high rise skyscrapers.
High profile fires in tall buildings have been a fixture of local news, with The Address Residences Fountain Views catching fire earlier this year and a blaze at The Address Downtown Dubai tower on New Year’s Eve 2015.
Winning the project is the highlight of a successful year for Barrier SSSMAR, which received an investment from the UK-based Barrier Group in early 2016.
The business, which operates out of a facility in Al Jadaf, Dubai, UAE, is going from strength to strength. The management team is led locally by Operations Manager, Lisan Alex, an immensely-experienced member of the team who has served industry in the UAE for more than 16 years. He is supported by a talented local team, which is generating strong interest in the capabilities and competencies of the growing company.
Other notable projects secured in the past year have included Fabrication services for Arab Heavy Industries in Ajman, Tank Cleaning for the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Pipework services for Lamprell in Sharjah, Steel Fabrication services for various local operations, as well as supplying Labour for blasting and painting to Lamprell in Hamriyah.
Craig Rose, Managing Director of Barrier SSSMAR said: “It is an honour to have been contracted to work on DAMAC Towers, which will become another of Dubai’s most iconic buildings. Fire safety in structures of such height and complexity is a serious issue, of which passive methods of prevention are an essential element. This is a flagship project for us and one of a number of high-profile jobs in the pipeline.
“Specialist passive fire protection spray application is proving to be a much-demanded service in all aspects of the construction industries and Barrier SSSMAR is building its reputation as a leading provider, offering a service that is becoming increasingly well-recognised.”
