Two leading engineering firms based in Wallsend are coming together to host a charity football match, which will raise important funds for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

Employees from Barrier Group and OGN Group are hosting the match, which will take place at 4pm on 7 August, in honour of two friends – Keith Hallway and Adam Peacock – who sadly both lost their battles with the disease.

Spectators will be asked to make a small donation to watch the game at Hebburn Sports & Social Club, which will be combined with funds raised through a raffle made up of prizes donated by local businesses.

This isn’t the first time the teams have met; in their previous encounter scaffolding crew from Barrier beat staff from neighbours OGN 4-2 thanks to a hat-trick from Michael Martin – raising £1,544 in the process.

The MND Association is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland dedicated to improve care and support for people affected by MND, fund and promote research, and campaign and raise awareness so the needs of people with MND are addressed by society.

Graham Brooks, Construction Manager at OGN Group, said: “Unfortunately employees from both Barrier and OGN have been affected by Motor Neurone Disease. Keith and Adam were both keen footballers and we thought it fitting to help raise funds with what is shaping up to be a rather competitive game of football.”

Kevin Cairns, Scaffolding Supervisor at Barrier, said: “We’re expecting a good turnout for the game and would encourage others to come down and cheer the players on – it will be a fun afternoon for all the family and you might even get your hands on some great raffle prizes! It will also mean we can raise even more for those suffering with MND and help support their families.”

Tickets are available on the turnstiles on the day of the match at Hebburn Sports and Social Club – £5 for adults and £2 for children.
